Die Brenz in Mergelstetten

The river Brenz

The river Brenz begins its journey to the Danube at the source in Königsbron. It flows leisurely and in wide curves through its valley, always at a pace that allows us to comfortably accompany it on foot.
Over a length of 52 kilometers, the Brenz tells us fascinating stories about time: how it formed its valley in ancient times, how it provided people with food, work, and energy. It tells of habitats that disappeared and returned. And of the eternal cycle of water.

The 56-kilometer-long Brenz Cycle Route takes you comfortably through the typical karst landscape of the Swabian Alb and along the river. If it's said that rivers shape landscapes, then this is certainly true of the Brenz. From its source in Königsbronn to its confluence with the Danube, it offers refreshing breaks during the warm months.

Numerous adventure sites and information points have been created along the banks, inviting passing hikers and cyclists to relax and explore. These "Brenz Learning Centers" provide interesting facts about the ecologically valuable river landscape. One example is the “Beaver Burrow” exhibition in the enchanting Eselsburg Valley, dotted with bizarre Jurassic rocks, which gives visitors an insight into the way of life of these rodents. The water playground in Bergenweiler also provides refreshment. It invites young and old alike to splash around, while the Brenz Tower and the birdwatching towers in the Donaumoos offer sweeping views of a wide variety of natural areas.
