Wegebeschaffenheit
Experience 100 years of railway romance on the Gerstetter Alb and embark on the short version of the “Kuppenalb” time trail.
The family tour includes a long break at the Bauernhauhütte with barbecue facilities.
Wegbeschreibung
We start at the train station in Gussenstadt and follow the yellow ring hiking sign along Bahnhofstraße. We pass the Pfisterer company and after about 100 meters we turn right and follow the gravel path, first a short distance through the forest and then along the edge of the forest. A beautiful view over the meadows and heathland opens up before us. At the Bauernhauhütte, the barbecue area invites us to take our first break. Back on the hiking trail, we continue for a short distance along the meadow path and then take a gravel path to reach the Gussenstadt-Bräunisheim municipal road. We follow this for about 500 meters and then turn left. We continue through the juniper heath typical of the Alb, through the forests of the Pfaffenberg and Leerenberg mountains towards Gerstetten. Through fields and meadows, we follow our hiking sign – a yellow ring – past a small wooded area. Here we leave the long Kuppenalb trail and turn left towards Gussenstadt, hiking first along the edge of the forest, then through fields and meadows, past the Drei Linden. From here you have a wonderful view of the local railway, and you might even see the little train steaming past. We return to Gussenstadt via a beautiful meadow path – the Millionenweg. We reach Gussenstadt station via the Montalweg and Bahnhofstraße.
Sicherheitshinweise
Please bear in mind that you will be walking on mostly natural paths. Paths in the forest may be in poor condition due to forestry work. Therefore, please wear sturdy shoes.
There are not many places to stop for refreshments along the way, so we recommend bringing plenty of drinks and possibly a backpack lunch.
